ShortWave Project.1 :07/01/25: Morse Code, Communist Agriculture and Satan's Poison Tongue
I have been messing with basic shortwave radio stuff for the last 7 years and I often find myself trying to remember interesting snippets and sounds that I have come across when listening to the worldwide radio waves through my cheap little Tecsun. This project is just to collect some informal data of what I hear going from SW1 - SW10 in one sitting/ tuning session (this is usually how I use my radio's SW function since none of the tunings are good enough to sit and listen to any one station for long enough, it's more a whistle stop tour of what the rest of the world can hear from moments at a time). Hopefully I will be entertained by doing this long enough to come out the end with a big enough data set to make some sort of meaningful or outwardly complex work out of it.. but for now it's just a bit of fun.

SW:1 L->R
White noise (WN) sounds like howling wind or a speeding car in a film or video game. Sci-fi noises continue as I'm tuning towards the right. SW1 3.70 sounds like faint morse code but I think it's a satellite transmission, slightly irregular rhythm so I'm not sure. As I came to the end of SW1 the "wind" noise came out, like a microphone was strapped to the outside of a plane.
SIDENOTE: I keep tricking myself that I can hear voices. It's like the audio version of how the human brain is always trying to find faces in shapes and patterns. All WN sounds like a sports commentator if you listen for long enough.
SW:2 R->L
Between 4.80 and 5.00 there's a long violin-ish noise. NOTHING OF NOTE
SW:3 L->R
WN is like fluttery convulsing B-Movie effects- came and gone within 3 secs at 5.90. This repeats between 6.05 and 6.25. Followed by more "weird " WN until 6.25. Ends in normal WN.
SW:4 R->L
Straight away undercurrents of a station, I can hear the patterns but then nothing. Squeaky martian voices. Sounds like radio communication rather than the usual sense of the phrase "radio station" (rte and the like) could be walkie-talkies or a shipping station. This is in between 7.00 and 7.20. Whirring fan style WN is background. Can't make the words out. They're like the sound effects from an action movie where the only words that the audience can understand are the punctuating "over"s . a computer generated voice under and over layers of WN. Could be a number station but the word patterns are too irregular. Voice is really roboto. On concentrated listening there seems to be morse code in the background, this replaces roboto voice. The code is to fast to take down and I'd go crazy trying to. Time to move on.
SW:5 L->R
Undoubtedly on a morse code channel now between 9.25 and 9.45. I recorded some through my headphones found uploaded to SoundCloud here:
Nothing else decipherable. Just beeps and bops.
SW:6 R->L
SIDENOTE: I once heard from somewhere that signals are better at night. Usually I do this when I can't sleep and that is when I get some nice "talk radio".
More 60's Dr.Who noises.
Finally some commercial radio at 11.90. Sounds like pop music or ads. Can't tell the language but sounds like a European broadcast. There's a lady with a very "radio voice", feel like I'm about to be told that my flight is going to be cancelled. There's also some music trying to poke through. SW:7 L->R
Talk radio at 13.25 - 13.40. Two presenters talking, here is what I could make out:
Sichuan University- for the people- new bright- and China- after the forth- made a commitment- civilization in the city- election- circumstance of the Chinese- introduce more - thousands of people- communist agriculture- locals- technology- we know about the Chinese- we know about their exports and would like them to share- the Chinese Prime Minister- last Tuesday- to talk about the implementation of both projects- other areas- wealth agriculture and security- across the Republic of China- coming up- global reporters with captivating stories and thought provoking- he made the decision- prime minister- global and nation wide- to begin- a real choice in the next election to become culturally- internal backers- by the conservatives in the election- we don't know what could happen- liberal party and the Canadian Prime Minister- a number of people- so that's pretty much what will happen- we will lead the country- 2025 is the year of elections in Canada- open the door to more than- democracy catches up with you - too many controversies- personal issues-
moving on..
music station where it's modern pop or Judy Garland, this goes as quickly as it appears.
SW:8 R->L
I think this is the same global politics station as prev. found on SW:7, at 15.20.
freedom party collapsed- coalition government- run for president- only alternative- something Austria doesn't need right now.
SW:9 L->R
The previous static/ WN which was erratic becomes immediately somber. Quieter, muted excitement. Talk radio at 17.50. I originally thought it was the above station again but I heard the phrases "poison tongue " and "swim away from genuine truth" - this is an American Christian(??) station. Here's what i could hear:
pretend your faith is genuine but it's not, turn aside to the poison tongue turn to the talking worthless thing - they don't want you to sin- Leviticus 4 Timothe 4 verse 1 - specifically spirt Yahweh [name for God in old testament] - seeing something- shall fall away- Paul also uses the term apostasia - number 24:76- the apostos means - fallen away from the faith- Greek word for fall away from standing, an abandoning and at number 616- Yahweh-Yahweh- always be true- the departing from- what you want to leave/believe- how's that possible? because you're listening to satanic - no longer listening to the voice of Yahweh - he Hebrew for Pisces spirit - do they really do that, do they really do that- when you know Yahweh's words- instead of positively saying I know who I have believed- I know my redeemer- do you really know that are you exercising your faith in really knowing, really believing it.
Signal got bad.
More music at 17.60, folky with ballad singing. I think it sounds a bit Middle Eastern but I can't make out a specific language over WN.
SW:10 R->L
A lot quieter. Just quiet WN the whole way through. At end, plane noises coming in and out but no particular "human noises" .
