Now there are bio-hacking tech bros and then there were sex magick wizards I guess-Irish Occultism- A Proposal
There's something so typically "Irish" about the history of occultism in Ireland.
This statement seems trite and like it's making no point by just repeating itself but bare with me..
The history of occultism in Ireland, when you look into it a wee bit, seems so prevalent and intrinsic in how it influences current culture and yet it is something that seems rarely talked about ( there is no definitive book on the subject upon first glance). Of course there are figures (I mean WB Yeats, the only Irish person anyone means by anything when talking about such things) which we study in the leaving cert etc which were part of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and whose collection of occultist texts have their own place in the archive of the NLI. And then there's Maude Gonne..
These people aren't spoken of in this capacity, their influence, or even parallel conclusions between their non-catholic-beliefs and the subsequent changes in Irish values from collectivist to individualistic societies are not drawn.
Of course the poets, revolutionaries, painters and alchemists of a nation shape it! Do they not now and have they not before. Capitalist values didn't come with the cocaine bankers and the salmon-shirt-brown-shoes realters.
it's happened before, it will again and it did then.. think of the druids, did they not whisper in the ear of our forefathers. . They did.
DO WHAT THOU WILL
Their is an undeniable change in Irish cultural attitudes towards the "self" which occurred in the late 19th century and early 20th. Individualism and the conquests of the individual beyond the Pale and beyond Protestantism became more apparent. Cultural figures, any of them you research have even just a strenuous link to hermeticism. I guess it was a le mode.
Now there are bio-hacking tech bros and then there were sex magick wizards I guess..
I would argue that such things are directly linked (because such things are fun to argue...we all do it) but even if YOU don't buy it there are still parallels to be mapped. Correlation isn't causation... obvs! That doesn't make it any less interesting to look into.. why not yet?
Because Irish cultural CRITICISM is stagnant. Everyone knows everyone so why piss them off, I do it too, it's the way it is.
That's Ireland.
We don't talk shit about our "current "(if we know people who could be involved otherwise we do it all the fucking time, sure they come from a good family and all and sure my friend knows their friend).
And what is the " current" if not something that comes from SOMETHING.
SOMETHINGs are banished, abolished, BANNED from being spoken about (unless you sound like an ad) here.
Such is life, we all live it.. we participate and perpetuate.
My proposal?? Maybe I'll write a book trying to be mega goth and map the intricacies of such things,, we'll see. Regarding the current state of art criticism (not something outwardly brought up here but heavily hinted... if you get it you get it) I hope some day to have the balls to say to my contemporaries that THIS is SHIT and have a place to say it... needs to be said... does it? maybe.
HAVE MORE BABIES. CREATE PERSONAL DEVIDES. I WANT TO TALK SHIT AND I WANT TO DO IT NOW
in conclusion it's ailester crowley's fault !!!!!!
